I Bought a Google Pixel XL – No Regerts

I almost purchased the Verizon version of the Google Pixel since the Google store is sold out of most models and 4-6 weeks out on others, so I got one through Swappa.

There are a few reasons I shouldn’t have done this:

  • I spent too much money on the Pixel XL.
  • The Pixel is 3-4 months old already.
  • There is another phone that is probably as good and a lot cheaper available, the OnePlus 3T.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the LG G6 are coming soon.

I don’t care! I wanted it, I got it, and I don’t have any regerts.

If you don’t understand the regerts reference, scroll down to watch one of my favorite commercials!

There was nothing wrong with my Nextbit Robin, but I wanted something with a better camera and a quicker upgrade path. Since Google pushes OS updates directly to their phones, the Pixel is the only option. I was in the Nextbit Beta program, but you still have to wait for them to prepare the newest OS. The Google Pixel’s camera is probably one of the best on the market currently, so I wanted to have that experience for myself as well.

Here are some of the photos I have snapped with the Pixel XL.

The other phone that I was considering is the OnePlus 3T. It would have been $300 cheaper.

On paper, it looks like I should have saved the cash and purchased the OnePlus 3T, but again, I have no regerts. From talking to friends that still write about the mobile tech industry and from reviews, the Pixel XL has a better camera experience.

I can’t say that I won’t want another new phone when the new models start hitting the shelves, but I am fairly sure that I won’t want a Galaxy S8 if they are as big as the leaks say they are.
