My Bitcoin Story – Why I am not a Bitcoin Billionaire!

According to Grok, I would be worth around $54 Billion if I would have made a deal that I will detail. For many reasons, I am OK with not being a Billionaire… but it would have been awesome! 

Here is what Grok tells me… 

So, I used to run some very popular websites back in the aughts. Around 2010, I ran into an issue at work that forced my hand and I had to look to sell the Aximsite/Mobilitysite network. My work on the site had become a conflict of interest at my day job and I made a choice to continue working for my company and moved to sell. In 2008/2009, I had pretty good offers to buy, but I wasn’t interested. I reached out to those people and others when I had to sell. The market had cooled a little and I wasn’t getting the offers I hoped for, but I had to do it anyhow.

One of the offers, obviously not the offer I took, was for $75,000 USD in Bitcoin. I didn’t even consider the offer because it was far lower than I was willing to take. At the time, the site was still generating about $10k/mo in revenue.

I never really thought about this until Bitcoin skyrocketed to $60k a coin in 2021. I mentioned my 2010 “mistake” to a friend and he quickly tallied up how rich I would be. It was somber. I mean really, when Bitcoin was $10k, I would have still be mega rich.

Anyway, the reason I can write this without any regret is this… I’ve never been rich and I wasn’t back then, so I would have NEVER left $75,000 on the table in a currency that I didn’t even believe in back then. If I knew that crypto would have become a “thing”, I might have taken a chance, but I am 99.9% sure that I would have figured out how to liquidate that $75k right then and there…

The only thing I wonder about is if the “leftovers” from the cash out would have also been enough to at least make me a Millionaire. My guess is yes. You know, sometimes when you move coins, some gets left behind. That amount left behind would have still made me rich.

Anyway, that’s my story and I am OK with it. Instead, I own roughly $200 in $BTC.
